December Update

Hey all! I'm back from vacation now. I had a blast in Japan visiting with Alex! ;D Super times in Fukuoka, Beppu, and finally seeing Mt. Fuji. Lots of great adventures, and I have mixed feelings about coming home. (I would just like to be on an adventure forever.) And I also I bought more fabric, but that's hardly a surprise. I'm pretty sure I qualify as a hoarder.

I can't believe it's December already? And yes, I always say that. I like to think that it's a good thing that I always think time is moving so quickly--I usually attribute it to that old saying, "time flies when you're having fun". But every once in a while I feel as though time is slipping away through my fingers and I'm not doing something worthwhile. Being in job limbo for a while has been a bit disheartening. I guess I just sometimes feel like I'm not a productive member of society. Or maybe it's just that job hunting is generally super depressing. Well, no need to burden you with all my negativity. But the "real job" hunt continues.

In the meantime, I will most likely be working on a collection of accessories that I will be selling. Still prototyping, but I will most likely have something real soon! (And yes, I realize that was super vague!)

In recent and super awesome news, Mike--a.k.a. EleventhPhotograph's cosplay photography book is out now! Super cool! :D And I don't think that just because there are a few pictures of me in it. So many talented cosplayers and tons of great shots! Proud of him! Was glad he was able to drop off my copy before he moved back to Japan.

I've got a few secret projects to start on in the elf workshop. Apparently Christmas is this month? And I've got fabrics for my next cosplays in hand. I can hardly wait to start working on those.

As for upcoming blog content: The last Sakura post will be up this Thursday (so, tomorrow), ending the unnecesarily long and drawn out Sakura post saga. Then there will be a few not-cosplay/small projects to finish off the month of December. The new year will kick off with Vaporeon--bringing us up to date with current costumes--followed by any secret Christmas projects. Afterwards? Who knows?

That's all for now!

November Update

Salutations! It's November already? I'm on a pretty short turn-around between trips. I got back from New York on Thursday and I leave for Tokyo today. As I mentioned, there will be a 3-4 week hiatus from blog posts while I am in Japan, as I will not be bringing my laptop with me. Regular posting will resume on Dec 2nd.

I had a pretty decent Halloween this year. Blayke and I carved pumpkins, watched movies and hung out with some friends in the evening. As usual, the weather was not the best so my friends and I decided to skip Church Street festivities. I wore my Toothless onesie so I could be extra cozy. Blayke made his first costume. It's Mister Chief

My New York trip yielded excellent results in the fabric shopping department, though my wallet is hurting from the steep exchange rate. I have the fabrics I need for my next 2 costumes as well as my accent gold fabric for Sakura.

I won't say what these all are for (the fabrics on the right here are for a secret costume I've been working on), but you can probably make an educated guess what the green jersey fabrics below are for. ;D The pretty buttons are going to be used on my next tailored jacket, whenever I get around to making it.
I saw some great shows in NYC--Shear Madness, The King and I, and Kinky Boots. I definitely recommend Kinky Boots. (Though Gentlemen's Guide to Love and Murder is still by far my favourite Broadway show I've seen.)

January Update

Wow, it's been 2015 for almost a month??

I spent my Christmas break in Japan visiting my sister Alex! We had tons of fun! You can check out all my crazy adventures on instagram, where I go by bobbinsthread.

As soon as I returned to Canada I was in full swing on my next production; Tales from the Vienna Woods. I am the Head Carpenter for this show. This is the last show I work on with the Ryerson Theatre School, and that makes me super sad! I have spent the last couple of weeks working nonstop on carpentry, which has been pretty fun! (Haven't managed to accidentally cut wood with extra seam allowance. Yet. Hahaha) My show opens on the 5th of February and closes on the 12th.

This of course explains my lack of updates. As I am still juggling school and show my blogging tends to become really low on the priority list... I can't promise anything new until February, as even though I have tons of stuff to share I have limited time to pull my posts together.

And also a thesis to work on. Yeah... I should probably get on that so I can graduate as planned.

December Update

In the middle of my crazy exam week (3 exams back to back!?), but providing I emerge unscathed I should have some new content for you all in the near future! (Meaning next week.) Switching to a 1 post every 2 weeks schedule for the next 2 months as I am running out of new content--the content I have right now won't last me until April. hahaha New content coming next tuesday!

Today I finished and presented my set model for the play My Fair Lady in my set design class. That project took a long time, but I am glad  I got it done and I was able to present a piece I am proud enough of to put in my portfolio. I will do a more in-depth look at my model soon.

After I finish exams I have about 2 weeks to work on my design for my independent study project. Excited to have some solid time to sit down and work on that.

I am leaving for a 2 week vacation in Japan on the 20th of this month! Super excited to visit my sister and check out all the sites in Toyko and Kyoto! I will be buying many cute things. And maybe some fabric. ;D Be sure to follow me on instagram if you want to follow my crazy shenanigans on the other side of the world.

But since I am going on vacation, I will not be making my Christmas gifts this year, so I will not be generating much new content over this break.

In other news, this past month I was presented with a scholarship award: The Harry and Jean Malabar Costume Award from the Ryerson Theatre School. I am so thrilled! It is an award for a student who has shown skill in costume design and construction. The funds from that will be going towards financing my independent study, as well as some future costumes.

That's all for now folks! Look forward to new content coming this tuesday. :)

Photos: Edinburgh, Scotland Day 4

The last morning before I took the train home. I took some shots of the apartment I stayed in. It was too big for me, and made me feel a bit homesick, but it was a great place to stay.

I really didn't like the stairwell, because there was no light switch, so at night I had to fumble with my keys in the dark. And the door was really creaky, so it scared me a lot. O.o

Hey guys! Hope you enjoyed Edinburgh, Scotland! I know I did!

I am going to take a break from posting trip pictures to post some of my FanExpo stuff while it is still recent. But after that, we're back to London (Day 5) and then on to Folkestone!

Photos: Edinburgh, Scotland Day 3 (Part 2)

I was lucky to get a nice break in the weather and get some shots of Edinburgh in the sunshine! :D

That is St. Giles Cathedral, which is the main, big cathedral in Edinburgh. And I got to take pictures inside. :D

What a stunning space with the light streaming through the stained-glass windows.

^REALLY SCOTTISH.

I took another stop on my Harry Potter Pilgrimage, to the Elephant House, a cafe where JK did some of her early writing. They say 'birthplace', but it is said that she came up with the actual concept while on a train. Still, the view of Edinburgh castle is inspiring enough to make anyone want to write about a boarding school full of witches and wizards. :D

I ate some inspiring food... but I didn't end up writing a novel. Or series of novels.

That's the legendary view. Pretty sweet. :D   ^

<The local costume shop... I like that Gollum is the DJ for 'Fellowship of the Funk'.

These guys took their cash register out of their store and were shaking about for some unknown reason... I took a picture because I am weird. And also a tourist.

Next up: Edinburgh, Scotland Day 4
